Instruments

Learning an instrument can develop creativity, discipline, enjoyment of working with others, and help children meet new people and develop new friendships through playing in ensembles.

Today, practising an instrument competes alongside any number of other activities for children’s attention at home. You only need to look at the wall to wall marketing for a Nintendo DS to see what we’re up against. We know that once students get to a point where they can truly enjoy playing and join in ensemble activities, they can derive great benefit and enjoyment. One of our key jobs is to help students through that first year of learning and with WELB Music Service Interactive we are providing you with a core of pieces and activities that engage students in new and exciting ways.

Our new and nationally acclaimed SMILE resources not only allow you to control the tempo, but also the backing track mix and the animation, giving you a flexible tool to use in your teaching. Even if you can’t use the interactive resources in your lessons, you and your students can still benefit as soon students will be able to access these resources at home.

Experience shows that children will be much more likely to practise if they can use their computer as their practice partner and the benefit for you is that they will turn up for their lesson much better prepared.

WELB  Music Service Interactive’s instrument resources also include performance, music appreciation, and instrument setup videos as well as quizzes and musical cartoons.

Imagine complete interactive courses for recorder, keyboard and ukulele coupled with classroom stimuli such as paintings, sound effects, classic cartoons, stories, poetry and songs. Imagine the enthusiasm of your pupils.

Access to these resources is normally by annual subscription to the Music Service. However, this year as part of our ongoing program of support for music education in WELB, and thanks to funding from ‘Achieving Derry - Bright Futures’ this invaluable resource is absolutely FREE of charge to schools in the Derry City Council area and for use by all WELB instrumental tutors.
